HOMELESSNESS & FAMILIES

Why Your Support Matters

  1. Families are a large part of the homeless population — about 37% of people experiencing homelessness are families.
  2. Over 100,000 children are homeless each night, often without a safe place to sleep or call home.
  3. Single mothers are most affected, highlighting the vulnerability of parents trying to provide for their children under extreme stress.
  4. Childhood homelessness has lasting impacts, including higher rates of asthma, anxiety, depression, and delays in development.
  5. Frequent school changes are common—some children move three or more times per year—disrupting learning and friendships.
  6. Food insecurity is widespread, meaning many children go hungry or rely on inconsistent meals.
  7. Many homeless parents are employed, but low wages and high housing costs make stability nearly impossible without support.
  8. Access to healthcare is limited, making routine check-ups, vaccinations, and mental health support difficult to obtain.
  9. Homelessness and mental health are closely linked, parents experiencing homelessness often face depression, anxiety, or trauma, and children exposed to these stresses are at higher risk for emotional and behavioral challenges. Additionally, some families struggle with substance use as a way to cope with the extreme stress and instability of homelessness.
  10. Stable housing changes everything — families who receive support experience better health, improved education outcomes for children, and renewed hope for the future.

Every gift you give helps turn a night of uncertainty into safety, a day of fear into hope, and a future of struggle into possibility. Families need you now more than ever, and your generosity directly changes lives.
