My Father’s House

Stepping Stone Transformational Apartments

At My Father’s House, we support homeless families by meeting their basic needs and helping them stay together while developing the skills needed to achieve long-term stability. As the housing crisis continues to make it increasingly difficult for families to find affordable places to live, we recognized the need for a bridge between shelter living and full independence

In response, we established the Stepping Stone Transformational Apartments (SSA) – 12 affordable housing units located adjacent to our main shelter. Opened in March 2016, this transitional housing program serves families who have successfully completed our primary shelter program (6 months) and still face significant barriers to securing permanent housing. These barriers may include past evictions, criminal history, property-related debt, or insufficient income despite employment.

Residents at SSA commit to a one-year program that includes continued case management, financial education, and life skills training. They also pay a program fee, which supports accountability and financial growth. During their stay, families work to build rental and credit history, advance their employment opportunities, and prepare for truly independent living.
The Stepping Stone Apartments consist of 12 apartment units built right next door to our current shelter. We opened the transitional housing in March 2016 and have 12 families in this program. Families who live at SSA have rental barriers that are not easy to overcome. Barriers such as evictions, felonies, property debt and low income (even though they have a job). Families continue working and pay a program fee to live here. Each family is required to continue with our educational program as well as case management. The program length is one year.
